Meet Ziggy the Zebra: Our New Mascot with a Big Mission!

The Erdheim-Chester Disease Global Alliance (ECDGA) is excited to introduce our newest team member—Ziggy the Zebra!

Ziggy isn’t your average zebra. Ziggy represents awareness, hope, and community for those living with Erdheim-Chester Disease (ECD). Why a zebra? There is an old medical saying, “When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.” This adage was meant to encourage physicians to first think about common conditions to explain a patient’s symptoms. Today, the rare disease community uses zebras to call attention to the fact that rare diseases do exist and should not be overlooked. Our Ziggy has joined the ECDGA team as a voice to help spread awareness, encourage support, and share the mission of ECDGA in a fun and relatable way.

During ECD Awareness Week, September 8-14 (???), Ziggy will star in a new video series. These videos are designed to make it easier to spread awareness of ECD and to highlight the strength of our global family.

We hope you will keep an eye on our social media channels and website for Ziggy’s videos. By introducing Ziggy to those in your social circles, you can help raise awareness ECD and continue building connections to help the ECD community.
