A DCE \u00e9 uma histiocitose de c\u00e9lulas n\u00e3o Langerhans, um c\u00e2ncer de sangue muito raro que afeta menos de mil pacientes em todo o mundo. Os pacientes com essa doen\u00e7a geralmente s\u00e3o diagnosticados erroneamente por muitos anos. A conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 fundamental para que voc\u00ea encontre o diagn\u00f3stico correto para uma doen\u00e7a t\u00e3o rara.   <\/p>\n<p>Em 2015, Joe Lofaro foi diagnosticado com essa doen\u00e7a extremamente rara e entende a import\u00e2ncia de aumentar a conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre a DCE. Preparando-se para o evento Father Ryan Relay for Life em Nashville, TN, do qual participaria em 22 de setembro, Joe aproveitou a oportunidade para gerenciar um evento de conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre ECD na noite anterior. Esse evento seria posterior \u00e0 Semana de Conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre DPI organizada pela ECDGA, realizada na segunda semana de setembro, e coincidiria com o m\u00eas de conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre a histiocitose, que \u00e9 comemorado durante todo o m\u00eas.  <\/p>\n<p>Com a presen\u00e7a de 12 colegas de classe, Joe organizou um jantar incr\u00edvel de conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre DPI, incluindo camisetas de conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre DPI, informa\u00e7\u00f5es, companheirismo e um rep\u00f3rter de rela\u00e7\u00f5es p\u00fablicas para compartilhar a hist\u00f3ria. Durante toda a noite, o pote de doa\u00e7\u00f5es arrecadou mais de US$ 150. Melinda Brown, que tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 paciente de DPI e amiga muito pr\u00f3xima, tamb\u00e9m compareceu ao evento.  <\/p>\n<p>No s\u00e1bado, Joe e outros 50 amigos, familiares e membros da comunidade, todos vestindo as camisetas da equipe de conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre DPI, aproveitaram a oportunidade para aumentar a conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o, informando a todos os curiosos sobre DPI. Infelizmente, o dia seria interrompido por uma chuva de fim de ver\u00e3o que ocorreu das 17h \u00e0s 22h. No entanto, al\u00e9m de divulgar a conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre o DPI, a equipe de Joe conseguiu arrecadar US$ 250 para a American Cancer Society, somando ao total geral de US$ 203.000 para o evento Father Ryan deste ano.
