Uplifting Athletes<\/a>, une association \u00e0 but non lucratif d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9 des personnes atteintes de maladies rares, a annonc\u00e9 que le Dr Jithma Abeykoon allait recevoir une bourse de recherche d\u2019un montant de $20 000 en tant que membre de la promotion 2023 des jeunes chercheurs d\u2019Uplifting Athletes. Le Dr Abeykoon a \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9e pour cette bourse par l\u2019Erdheim Chester Disease Global Alliance.<\/p>\n

Le Dr Abeykoon est ma\u00eetre de conf\u00e9rences en h\u00e9matologie et en oncologie m\u00e9dicale \u00e0 la Mayo Clinic, dans le Minnesota, et participe activement \u00e0 la recherche et \u00e0 la prise en charge de la maladie d'Erdheim-Chester (ECD). L'ECD est un type rare de cancer du sang qui entra\u00eene une accumulation d'histocytes, des cellules qui combattent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement les infections dans les organes de l'organisme.<\/p>\n

La subvention accord\u00e9e au Dr Abeykoon permettra de financer des travaux de recherche visant \u00e0 identifier un nouveau marqueur pronostique et \u00e0 mettre au point une strat\u00e9gie th\u00e9rapeutique innovante pour les patients atteints d\u2019ECD, une forme rare de cancer du sang. Il s\u2019attachera plus particuli\u00e8rement \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer comment la communaut\u00e9 m\u00e9dicale peut cibler le transport des mol\u00e9cules du noyau vers le cytoplasme dans les cellules canc\u00e9reuses afin de \"\"<\/a>b\u00e9n\u00e9fice th\u00e9rapeutique. Ses recherches pourraient d\u00e9boucher sur la d\u00e9couverte de nouvelles strat\u00e9gies th\u00e9rapeutiques dot\u00e9es de m\u00e9canismes d'action innovants pour les patients atteints d'ECD.<\/p>\n
